Why Muslim Fundamentalists Destroy World Heritage Sites

Join us on Monday, Sept. 18th for a glimpse into a cultural, religious and political mindset that seeks the annihilation of historical monuments revered by the world community — including the world of Islam. Our speaker will be Dr. Tamara Albertini, Professor of Islamic Philosophy at UH Manoa.

Dr. Tamara Albertini has a Lic.phil. from the University of Basel and a D.phil. from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich. Her research fields are Renaissance and Islamic philosophy. Among her major publications are “The Seductiveness of Certainty. Fundamentalists’ Destruction of Islam’s Intellectual Legacy.” Professor Albertini has been awarded a number of national and international fellowships and grants, including a National Endowment for the Humanities travel grant for Iran and Central Asia. She is the co-founder and President of The International Charles de Bovelles Society and the current director of UH’s undergraduate certificate in Islamic Studies.
