Harvard Club Brownbagger — Ebola: A Personal and Viral Journey
Join us on Wednesday, Aug. 24th for one doctor’s personal journey supporting the fight against ebola. His life-saving and life-threatening work in Liberia during the height of the crisis is inspirational, educational and gripping.
Thomas Crabtree, MD, is the Group Medical Director for Aspen Medical International, LLC. Aspen provides global health care solutions to governments, private sector communities and international organizations. He is a retired US Army Colonel and served as the chief of plastic and reconstructive surgeon at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. He also worked for Hawaii Permanente Medical Group and is now a partner in Hawaii Dermatology and Plastic Surgery Centers.
In addition to his business and plastic surgery responsibilities, Dr. Crabtree served as the past medical director and the senior medical advisor to the US Pacific Command’s Center of Excellence in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance. He now holds the same position with The US Naval Postgraduate School’s Center for Civil Military Relations Global Health Program. In this capacity Dr. Crabtree is responsible for guiding, brokering and executing myriad civil-military medical assistance efforts and health development programs throughout the globe.
Dr. Crabtree was born and raised in Boston. He’s a graduate of Harvard and Stanford. He completed his general surgery training in San Francisco and Tucson and his plastic surgery training in Washington DC and Baltimore. He lives with his wife Jessica and daughters Haley and Piper on Oahu’s Windward side and bookends his days at the office and hospital with surf sessions whenever and wherever possible.
